G1 Gets Opera Mini For Android - iPhone Doesn't
Opera Mini 4.2 Is Now Available For Android
T-Mobile G1 users can now begin surfing the web using the new version of the mobile Internet browser Opera Mini 4.2. After a few weeks of beta testing, Opera Software has unleashed the final rendition of it's popular browser and decided to bring Android along for the ride.
Some of the new features in Opera 4.2 include new skins, video support and the ability to sync notes with the Opera desktop browser. Also, Opera software has just opened a new server park that will allow US users to see a 30% speed boost compare to older versions of the browser. Non US Opera Mini users may see an increase in performance due to a "reduced load" on other servers worldwide.
One of the most touted features of Opera has always been it's its speed and while you may be thinking your 3G capable G1 may not need a speed boost, if you happen to leave the busting streets of NYC (or any other major city) chances are that you will not be browsing at 3G speeds.
T-Mobile is still polishing up its 3G network and many G1 users (including myself) will find that Opera's lightning fast browser is a much welcome alternative to the stock Android Browser. Also, because the G1 is designed specifically for use on T-Mobile's 3G network, AT&T users that have an unlocked G1 are not able to browse using 3G. This is another example where you may need a little extra boost when surfing the net and Opera mini could be just what you are looking for.
Opera Mini may be downloaded directly from here or you can pick it next time your in the Android Market.
