I woke up today to an interesting email, AT&T is now offering the AT&T iPhone 3G - 8 GB and AT&T iPhone 3G - 8 GB online. Before today, if you wanted an iPhone you would have to drag your butt to an AT&T Store.

The normal customer requirements are still intact for online purchases:

    * 2 Year contract
    * $39.99 rate plan or above
    * $30 Data plan for iPhone is required for the life of your iPhone service and cannot be removed in the future.
    * Limit one device per household

T-Mobile has been offering the G1 (the most fierce iPhone competitor) online from the beginning, even when the gPhone was only available for as a preorder. This was definitely a smart move by the folks at AT&T and should help bolster sales for the holidays and step up the rivalry between the iPhone and the G1.
